Support For Employees Who Are Experiencing Mental Ill Health

High levels of work related stress, or difficulties at home can affect performance and health. Our package of training and support includes a job retention service designed to help employees to remain at work or return to work where a mental heath problem is making this difficult. Support is provided to employee and employer and is flexible and bespoke to the individual and organisational need.

Support includes:

  • One to one confidential support
  • Support for line managers - how to deal with mental health issues generally
  • Support for line managers - how to deal effectively with specific situations
  • Liaison with HR and OH to ensure fair and effective support for all parties
  • Independent support to retain individuals and return them to work after sickness absence or to facilitate their looking for alternative roles or employment.
  • Ongoing support after provision has been used.

Understanding Mental Health Conditions 1

Outcomes

  • Understanding of the terms "mental health" and "mental ill health"
  • Increased awareness of the erroneous preconceptions and prejudices surrounding mental ill health
  • To be able to recognise some of the signs and symptoms of mental ill health
  • To acquire a basic knowledge of mental health and associated problems including
    • Depression,
    • Anxiety,
    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD),
    • Panic attacks,
    • Eating disorders,
    • Schizophrenia
    • Bi-polar disorder
    • Psychosis
    • Self harm
    • Suicide
    • Substance misuse

  • Understanding of how it might feel to have a mental health problem

Understanding Mental Health Conditions 2

Outcomes

This course builds on the knowledge gained from ‘Understanding mental health conditions’ On completion of this course attendees will have:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the issues, risks and difficulties surrounding all mental illnesses including personality disorder and substance misuse problems
  • Know where to go for support, including an overview of community based statutory and voluntary sector mental health and related services.

Sample Course 3
Managing Stress

This course teaches techniques for managing the damaging effects of ones own stress and the stress of others.

Outcomes

  • Increased understanding of the impact of high levels of workplace stress on mental health
  • Awareness of how we can mitigate against the negative effects of stress
  • Know what small adjustments can be made within the workplace to increase productivity and reduce stress
  • Know where to turn to for help in supporting staff with mental health problems
  • Know how to communicate effectively with staff who may be experiencing mental health issues.

Sample Course 4
Effective Management of Mental Ill Health and Creating a Mentally Health Workplace

This two-day course is designed to significantly improve the understanding of mental health amongst delegates. The course provides an in depth look at effective management of staff mental health. Participants will receive detailed information on prevention and early intervention, which will reduce sickness absence resulting from mental health issues.

Outcomes

  • Increased understanding of how to promote mental health in the workplace
  • Improved confidence in dealing with mental health issues
  • Ability to deal with problems in a timely, sensitive and effective manner
  • Improved understanding of interventions for long-term mental health promotion, leading to an increase in staff retention.
