Support Us

SWR Mind receives very limited funding from statutory sources, therefore we rely on grants from charitable trusts and foundations, our sponsors and from donations. Any donation that you make will be gratefully received and will make a difference to the lives of people with mental health difficulties in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.

Why Support us?

1 in 4 people will have a mental health problem at some time in their lives, equating to some 39,000 people in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.

Mental ill health can affect anyone - rich or poor, young or old, shattering the lives of those affected and the lives of the people close to them. Of those affected 90% will be unable to live their lives as active members of their communities, rather they will be socially excluded and unable to properly access fair opportunities for housing, employment, health and social care.

This isolation and suffering is further compounded by the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental ill health, largely fuelled by sensationalist reporting in the media. Consequently, mental health is not a popular cause making any donation we receive hugely important in furthering our work.

The difference we make

SWR Mind provides life-changing support to over 500 people every year.

Our service responds to the needs of people with mental health problems by helping them to develop confidence and self esteem, make friends and establish supportive community networks, and find and use mainstream help within their local community.

We know this is the right approach because we regularly consult with our service users and volunteers to make sure we are providing the service that they want and need.

Parachute for Us

Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet …

… the noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below. Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go - falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph! Then imagine the peace and quiet as the canopy opens, the steering toggles come down either side of you and you begin a tranquil parachute descent from a mile up in the air, steering yourself back down to the centre of the drop zone below. Imagine being able to do this for FREE whilst harnessed to a professional freefall parachute instructor and at the same time being able to help our charity!

Stop imagining, it's real and it's happening all the time and you can be part of it...
